Internet Messaging

To configure your email software, be sure to have the following information near at hand:

  • Your user name (everything in front of your email address @cooptel.qc.ca)
  • Your email address @cooptel.qc.ca (for example : name@cooptel.qc.ca)
  • Your password (chosen when you subscribed to the Internet)
  • The name of your outgoing email server (SMTP)
    smtp.cooptel.qc.ca or smtp2.cooptel.qc.ca (verify on your user’s agreement)
  • The name of your incoming email server (POP3)
    pop.cooptel.qc.ca
  • The name of your forum server (NNTP):
    news.cooptel.qc.ca or news1.cooptel.qc.ca or news2.cooptel.qc.ca or news3.cooptel.qc.ca

Configuration for Microsoft Outlook Express™

  • Start the application Outlook Express. (Start, Program, Outlook Express)
  • Click on the Tools menu, then on Comptes.
  • Click on Add, then on Courrier/Mail.
  • Under Name, enter the name on display when you send email, then click on Next.
  • Under Adresse de messagerie, enter your CoopTel email address (name@cooptel.qc.ca), then click on Next.

  • • From the scrolling menu, select POP3. (upper right)
  • • Under incoming email messaging server (POP, IMAP ou HTTP), enter the name of CoopTel’s POP server: pop.cooptel.qc.ca (lower case).
  • Under outgoing email messaging server (SMTP), enter the name of the outgoing server (SMTP): smtp.cooptel.qc.ca or smtp2.cooptel.qc.ca (verify on your user’s agreement/convention to see which one you should use). Click on Next.
  • Enter your user name (only « login » - information in front of @cooptel.qc.ca) beside Account name and your Password.
  • Mark the box next to Save password, so you won’t have to enter your password each time you use Outlook Express.
  • To prevent others from using your email account, do not mark the box marked Save Password. Outlook Express will ask for your password each time you open a session.
  • Click on Next, then on Finish.

  1. Open Outlook Express

  2. 1. Click on the Tools, Account menu

  3. Click on the Email tab and then account to be configured

  4. Click on the Properties button

  5. Click on the Server tab and fill in the required information:
        Incoming email (POP3): pop.cooptel.qc.ca
       Outgoing email (SMTP): smtp.cooptel.qc.ca or smtp2.cooptel.qc.ca (verify on your user’s agreement/convention which one to use)
       Account name : Enter the beginning of your cooptel.qc.ca email address (everything in front of @cooptel.qc.ca)
        Password: Enter the password for your cooptel.qc.ca email address
    Mark the box "My server requires authentication"

  6. Click on the button "Parameters''.

  7. Mark the option "Open a session using''

  8. Click on the Advanced tab
  9. Mark " This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
