CoopTel 56k Configuration - Windows Me/98/95/2000

You need the following information:

  • Connection number : The number your modem dials to connect to the Internet (Careful! If you make a long distance call, you have to pay long distance fees.)
  • Your user name (everything in front of your email address @cooptel.qc.ca)
  • Your password (chosen when you subscribed to the Internet)

Steps to follow for Windows Me/98/95/2000

  1. Double-click on the Work Station icon, then on the Distance network access.

    For Windows ME, click in succession on Start, Programs, Accessories, Communication and Distance network access.

    For Windows 2000, click in succession on Start, Programs, Accessories, Communication and Network Connections and distance access.

  2. Click on the New Connection icon.
  3. In the box marked Enter a name for the computer Called: Erase the words “My connection” and write CoopTel In the field marked: Area code:, you don’t write anything. .
    In the field marked: Phone number: you write the Phone number that is a local call for you.

  4. Click on the button marked Finish
  5. Click on the CoopTel icon ONE time with the right hand button of your mouse, then click on Create shortcut with the left button on your mouse.

  6. Answer YES to the message Do you wish to add a shortcut.
  7. (Be careful. Your user name and password must be written in lower case.)
    In the box: User Name : write your user name.
    In the box: Password : write your password.
    You can mark the box: Register your password.

Configure your Internet messaging software

  1. Write idm/cooptel/user name
  2. Write the access number that corresponds to your area.
