Phishing : Mass mailing of a bogus email, made to look authentic by identifying itself as a financial institution or well-known commercial site, in which recipients are asked, under various pretexts, to update personal or banking information by clicking on a link to a bogus Web site, a copy of a financial or commercial site, where the pirate operation gathers the information with the intention of using it to divert funds to its advantage.

Spam : An unwanted or useless message, often offensive and inconsequential, which is mass mailed to numerous groups or forums, thereby causing pollution of the web.

Spyware : Any software which includes a spy program and which, in the background, uses the individual’s Internet connection to gather and transmit personal information, in particular on his web surfing habits, to advertisers, and this without the knowledge or permission of the individual.

IP spoofing : A technology which consists of taking the identity of another web user and using his IP address, which gives the impression that the connection comes from the account of an authorized user.

Virus : A code designed to deliberately duplicate itself. A virus attempts to propagate itself from one computer to the next by grafting itself to a host program. A virus can damage hardware, software and data.
